Principles and Practice
![]()
Divine Science is a teaching centered on the principle: GOD
IS ALL PRESENT. Omnipresence is the belief that one Presence fills All, and it is
GOOD. This One Presence includes Love, Wisdom, Power, Substance and there is no opposite
or other than this Omnipresence.
Divine Science is based on this one changeless Truth: that God constitutes the nature of
All Being and that God and only God fills all realms and dimensions of existence. Nothing
we do or fail to do can separate us from this One Present Source. Paul reminds us, "in
Him we live, and move, and have our being."
Divine Science teaches that allness of
Spirit is forever present in mind, and we are only limited by our ability to recognize
this present source of good. How and what we believe about ourselves, our neighbors, God,
and life in general will mold the conditions and situations in our life. Our life
experience is the result of our habitual thoughts and beliefs. We actually have mental
patterns which continue to repeat themselves until we decide to change what we believe.
Change begins as a decision, then the activity in mind goes to work to support the new
decision. Thus are our personal experiences manifest.
As we become aware of this truth we gradually begin to let go of the limitations we have
placed on ourselves and others. We release our attachment to the world of things, thus
eliminating stress and worry from our lives. We discover a depth within ourselves
never before realized which is capable of bringing to us all we need or desire. Divine
Science believes this is what Jesus meant when he said, "I came that you may have
life and have it more abundantly." The world perceived only through our senses
appears dualistic, a multiplicity of things and ideas constantly changing in appearance,
in quantity and quality. But the inner depth of Being is conceived as the one and only
constant, eternal Source of ALL.
This PRACTICE requires discipline and focus. Attention, at first, must be directed away
from all that seems familiar in the visible world. We must consistently take
responsibility for our thoughts, beliefs, words, and actions. This discipline leads to an
awareness of inner HARMONY or AT-ONE-MENT; which is the result of focusing attention on
our inner constant source of Being. Soon it is discovered that being out of harmony is
what we call trouble, problems, dis-ease, dis-quiet, and all the world's aches and pains.
Eventually we realize that the truth lies at the center of each individual Being.
The one truth unites us all. This realization, ALL IS ONE WITH GOD, is a pure state of
communion. It leads to the understanding that life's meaning is the profound Will of God.
According to one of our founders, Nona Brooks, "The whole of Divine Science is the
practice of the Presence of God." The truth of any teaching lies in its ability
to produce results through the individual, which we call evidence of the truth. Through
books including the Bible, through receptive prayer, contemplation, and meditation we
practice God here now. Lives are changed for good!!
"True prayer is not begging for more wisdom, more supply, or more good. Infinite,
all embracing Being cannot give us more than Itself. In sharing Itself with us, It has
given us all that we can possibly need or desire. Our part is to accept."
-- Nona Brooks (from her book The Prayer That Never Fails)
Divine Science believes in the unity of all life, the transcendent and immanent nature of
God, and the Truth wherever it is found: in art, science or religion. The Divine Science
Statement of Being reflects our belief and expresses the Truth we come to know.
